On September 1st at 9:20 AM Jes and I welcomed our baby girl Reese Penelope to the world. She came in weighing 7lbs 9oz (3430g) and 21 3/4 in (55cm) tall. She’s been home for a week and a half now and we’ve been loving every moment of it; even the non-sleeping nights and the fact that she managed to puke on both of us this morning in a span of five minutes. The dogs love her too; if she starts crying they’ll all go and investigate, they’ll nuzzle her face when I’m changing her on the change table and they’ll bark at anyone who isn’t Jes or I if they are holding her and she starts to cry. She seems to love them as well; whenever they bark it calms her down which is perfect because the dogs can be somewhat jerky and bark often.

Here’s the first of what I’m sure will be a lot of shots of Reese appearing on the site.

There’s two words that describe Sarah and Jake’s wedding; for those of you who were there you’re probably thinking surprise ceremony but I’m talking about air guitar. Sarah is my first “sister” wedding of the year, I shot Rebecca’s wedding last July. Sarah and Jake planned for a small intimate wedding, they told all of the guests that they were having their ceremony during the day and everyone else was invited to the reception. Everyone accepted this as it was the exact same thing Rebecca and Brent did. Little did they know that we just used that time to freeze our asses off in the Sault’s winter hammering out their photos. Sarah and Jake ended up surprising everyone at the reception with having their small ceremony take place there. Both Sarah and Jake used their siblings as their wedding party which with a lot of foresight by their parents they had the same number of siblings on each side.

Because there was no ceremony and we were doing the photos before anything formal would happen Sarah and Jake opted for a first look. We had a simple set up where Sarah walked down the staircase in her parent’s house to Jake waiting at the bottom.

Now about that air guitar. It took it a little time to start up but as soon as it did I don’t think there was a time when it slowed down. It started few just a few key guitarists and grew into a mass heard of air guitar supremacy. I think the only time the onslaught of air guitar was slowed down was when the family dance routine broke out. That’s right folks; family dance routine.

Rain rain and more rain; it seems to be the theme of my Saturday weddings this year. For this Saturday it rained and when the plan was for an awesome outdoor wedding at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal plans were changed and new plans made on the fly. Nat and Matt took everything in stride however and didn’t let the rain bother them. The entire wedding now took place at the Water Tower Inn where I’ve shot a number of times this year already. Nat and Matt’s wedding was awesomely themed as “old Hollywood” featuring fedoras for the guys and a red carpet for the girls to walk down. We ended up walking around and using a lot of the hotel for the fun bridal party and bride and groom shots. Being stuck indoors always challenges you to find locations that people see everyday and trying to make them work the best for your couple – I think we pulled it off and the fact Nat and Matt were up for anything definitely helped that out.

Thanks for letting me be part of your big day! And for those keeping track at home Nat and Matt were the couple to push me over the edge and get me into shooting wedding photography. So if you like what you see me doing these are the guys you need to thank (along with Jeannette and Tony).
