Making their way onto the site due to popular demand I bring you Becky and Rich’s Wedding Reception Sneak Away pictures. These shots were taken on the same night as Jess and Mike’s Wedding Reception shoot as Becky and Rich were just down the road at the Water Tower Inn. I stole the couple away from their wedding reception for about ten minutes and below is what we hammered out. I’ll give Rich the credit for suggesting we head out onto Great Northern Rd (which is supposed to be one of the busier streets in Sault Ste. Marie) to grab some of the shots – they turned out killer!

Less than a month ago you got to feast your eyes on Cait and Curt’s Engagement Shoot and this past Saturday they officially tied the knot. Their wedding was held out on McCarroll’s Lake which is also known as the same area Jes and I just got married. And in what seemed like a mini “this is your life” moment Sandra and Randy, the parents of Marissa from my May wedding were cruising the lake in their pontoon boat and started screaming my name.

The weather forecast for the day was rain rain and more rain. The entire week was forecast like this. The rain did come early in the morning but the skies cleared when I met the girls at Style Studio Hair Salon for their morning of preparation. Dark and gloomy clouds started rolling their way through just before the ceremony and a small rain shower came down right at the end. After that the day turned perfect with the clouds creating a great backdrop at the fantastic setting. To top it off the food was extremely delicious and catered by Kina’s Katering.

One final note before we get to the pictures. The bridesmaid’s dresses had pockets, how cool is that? So brides, if you want to impress your bridesmaids find dresses with pockets, it was all they were able to talk about in the morning.

Joe was the winner of the first ever Curt O’Neil Photo Shoot Contest that I put up in early March of this year. I’m sure I’ll have more contests in the future for other random things so follow the website and also join the Curt O’Neil Photographer Facebook group to be notified of special updates and contest announcements when they come.

Joe’s win allowed him and his fiance Krista to get some last minute engagement pictures done before their wedding which is coming up in a couple of weeks. We spent Monday morning roaming around Sault Ste. Marie’s downtown and waterfront area stopping at any random location we could find and ended the morning off at the Soo Canal. During one of our stops in the back of buildings on Queen St. Joe heard screaming coming from inside the door. I thought he was just acting nervous as it was still early in the shoot and thought nothing of it. About ten seconds later the door swung up and a “what do you think you are doing!?” comes bursting out. We all stood there in shock and then “oh I’m sorry I thought you were my daughter and her boyfriend making out in the doorway, it’s okay, you guys can keep going.” We had a good laugh, took a couple more shots and carried on. The resulting shot of that situation is the third one below.

Krista and Joe were great sports and loved to laugh which made for awesome pictures. Good luck at your wedding guys and thanks for the great Monday morning and lunch!

You may remember Jess and Mike from their engagement shoot posted earlier on the site. I was an invited guest to their wedding but was hired to shoot their reception so essentially I had a half day off and got to enjoy the meal while working! The wedding reception was held in the main banquet hall of the Great Northern Hotel and Conference Centre here in Sault Ste. Marie and everything was perfect. The details were just right, the cake made by Jeannette from Jeannette’s Custom Cakes was awesome (she also made my wedding cake so I might be biased!), and everyone had a great time partying with the newly married couple. Here’s a sample of what we shot that night.

Two weekends ago Elaine, Jason and myself went for a mini road trip north of Sault Ste. Marie towards the Pancake Bay / Batchawana Bay area of Lake Superior. We only had the one day to work with as Jason just became a constable with the RCMP and was being stationed in British Columbia. Because of this we were a little leery of the stormy weather moving through the area but it held out long enough for us to get our shoot in. The shores of Lake Superior are like non-other and provide a great natural environment for shoots.

Elaine and Jason were able to break my streak of getting injured on engagement shoots so high five on that! Although I wasn’t injured I did stand in the freezing late June waters of Lake Superior to get some of the shots. It’s all about getting the shot and if standing in water to where you can’t feel your feet anymore is what you have to do then that is what you have to do.
